1878 Portsmouth Harbor at Fort Constitution, New Castle, NH, built on site of 1771 original. After Paul Revere rode to Portsmouth to warn citizens that a British brigade was enroute to strengthen the defenses, a raid on then Ft. William and Mary to capture British gunpowder and cannons considered one of the first acts of the Revolution,14 Dec 1774. Fort Itself dates to 1623.

At the entrance to Portsmouth, 1872 Whales Back Lighthouse which replaced original of 1830. Even at 60 feet, Goldy reports waves topping it in the "Perfect Storm" of Oct 1991. It is often called the New Hampshire Lighthouse, though it is actually in Maine.
