Read MorePaul Revere's Mid-day Ride: On 13 Dec 1774, Paul Revere rode 55 miles in a storm from Boston to Portsmouth to warn locals the British were sending reinforcements to protect the King's weapon stores at Fort William and Mary at the entrance to Portsmouth harbor. A group of 400 quickly assembled, overwhelmed the 8 British soldiers on guard, and captured 16 cannons, 60 muskets and 79 kegs of gunpowder. This is considered by many the first planned, organized act of war by the Colonialist.
